Stillwater, MN Air
02:27
|
|||
Let's make our move
Down to the river
Where life will float by slowly
We'll trade our cars
In for a house boat
You've always said we work too hard
Just take a breath, inhale
It's Stillwater, MN air
You turn up your nose, but to me
Dead fish never smelled so sweet
We'll raise our kids
Here on the river
They'll learn to swim like dolphins
You teach them to read
And I'll teach them skills that
All little lumberjacks need
Just dip your toes in first
The water is safe and warm
You ask, "Why's it yellow and brown?"
Well it's honey and chocolate to me
When times are tough we pull
Up anchor and follow the rising tide
But as we float along
Our friends and family pass us by
So let's not be hasty
Let's find another town
And a house anchored to the ground
The river life was serene
But only for one daydream

Skipping Stones
03:26
|
|||
Skipping stones with you has turned my head
I was ready to give you my precious summer days before you said
That we can't be in love we're only nine years old
But Fiona, my heart beats still
As you curl up beside me in our secret world
I'll drive us away to a house by the sea
And between every wave you can skip stones with me
Some years later in the junior high
Where the boys and the girls meet at football games to flirt through the night
When I asked you to dance with me your cheeks turned red
And I knew from the way you held my hand
That you can't be in love with your first best friend
But Fiona, my heart beats still
And the air turns electric with one smile from you
Then one moonlit night we took to the woods
And we stumbled into our imaginary childhood
And we climbed into the car where this feeling began
You whispered we might be in love
Oh we might be in love
Oh Fiona, my heart beats still
As you curl up beside me in our secret world
I'll drive us away to a house by the sea
And between every wave you can skip stones with me

Grandma and Grandpa
03:41
|
|||
Fireflies flicker through the grass, been growing so long
And the moon casts blue shadows on the screen porch, but nobody's home
Scrawled in red pen and tucked into the doorframe a note
Says Grandma and Grandpa
Went down to the lake for adventure
No need to wait
Cause we've gone looking for fun and we won't be back
A silvery canoe slips through water so silent and smooth
Like a knife through warm butter, Grandpa's paddle steers them through
Grandma leans back in his lap, and takes in the stars
There goes Orion, protecting the night
Seven Sisters, eternally bright
And far off in the distance I see
The one star that's been waiting for me tonight
Arm in arm we wait for the sun to rise
Grandpa looks back towards the shore, but it's already gone
He says, "Darling I've paddled too far, there's nothing but fog"
She takes him by the hand and looks into his eyes
And says, "Trust in the moonlight, it's led us this far"
Not knowing is only the start
We're going where just you and me
Release our memories and dreams to run free
We're ready, we're leaving this world behind

Queen of Heart
02:45
|
|||
I was on the bus home
When you stepped into my life
I'd never known
Such fire in a woman's eyes
You're a queen of heart
From a kingdom far
Above this cruel charade
There's a place where love will reign
Where the laws are paper thin
And you would not be named
By the color of your skin
I saw out the window
As the driver pulled away
He stole your pride
And left you in the rain
I'm an honest man
On my word I stand
But I froze and could not speak
And the blame weighs down on me
For the color of my skin
Should have stood up from my seat
And be the one who let you in
So I rode the bus home
As a quiet man would do
My face will fade
But they'll all remember you
The queen of heart
From a kingdom far
Above this cruel charade
In a place where love will reign
Where the laws are paper thin
And you will not be named
By the color of your skin

October Dream
03:21
|
|||
Do what you want to do
Take the chance that's at your doorstep
Be where you want to be
Drive away into the sunset
I'm leaving in the evening
Somewhere where the leaves
Change colors to feel something
There's no place I'd rather be
And so I'm asking you to
Come along
And share this October dream
Find what you've got to find
Autumn skies are waiting for you
Love who you want to love
You've been waiting for a while now
Summer's fading
Winter's shading
Somewhere in between
I'm waiting to feel something
There's no place I'd rather be
And so I'm asking you to
Come along
And share this October dream
Share this October dream

Sleep on It
02:36
|
|||
I wrote us a sweet song
Where the rhythms and the melodies
Never needed to change
With words so beautiful they'd make you
Say you'd give up everything and
Decide to stay
Drifted off to sleep that night
Thinking I had captured us
In a perfect light
Of a future life
Woke up the next day
Excited to listen to the
Recording I'd made
So I played it back to myself
But the story I'd invented was
Predictable
It was boring as hell
So thank God
This is not that song
No, this is not that song
Lesson learned today
No matter how I write it down
It won't stay the same
We're all built to change
So thank God
Life is not one song
No, life is not one song

We set out in the early morning light
On a journey to prove we're not defined
By the gravity that pull us towards the ground
We'll lift our bodies through the clouds
But the mountain will not yield
As we scale its icy shield
There were six of us who tried
I alone held the compass tight
As we drifted off from the course we'd laid
They all believed
It'd be okay
As the sun set down behind the mountain range
I felt the darkness in the clouds that howled our names
But the crew was not convinced and they pitched their tents
They all believed
It'd be okay
Still the mountain will not yield
To the prayers I keep concealed
Then the storm knocked out our radio
We lost all contact with the outside world
The snow grew thick and covered up our tracks
We knew there was no turning back
We set out in the storm and snow and ice
On a journey to prove we're not defined
By the gravity that pulls us towards the ground
We'll lift our bodies through the clouds

Oh, Yet We Trust
01:28
|
|||
Oh, yet we trust that somehow good
Will be the final end of ill,
To pangs of nature, sins of will,
Defects of doubt, and taints of blood;
That nothing walks with aimless feet;
That not one life shall be destroy'd,
Or cast as rubbish to the void,
When God hath made the pile complete;
That not a worm is cloven in vain;
That not a moth with vain desire
Is shrivell'd in a fruitless fire,
Or but subserves another's gain.
Behold, we know not anything;
I can but trust that good shall fall
At last—far off—at last, to all,
And every winter change to spring.
So runs my dream: but what am I?
An infant crying in the night:
An infant crying for the light:
And with no language but a cry.

When My Heart Stopped
01:48
|
|||
When my heart stopped
I could hear the bird song
Calling through my window
When my eyes closed
I could see my childhood
So long ago
So long ago
The sun
It never set
Like the day was endless
I never left
I never left
I never left
I never left

When the world weighs you down
Wait it out with a womb song
All will pass on
All will pass on

There's Always Adventure
01:27
|
|||
We've had such a good time today
We're sad to leave
We'd love to stay
But there's always adventure around the bend
Tomorrow we'll do it again
We've had such a good time today
We're sad to leave
We'd love to stay
But there's always adventure around the bend
We'll see you tomorrow my friend
